Jeng: OK. there are functions to get custom fields given the current post. Don’t invent wheels that don’t need inventing. Off to lunch now.
Heckert: I think those will work; the use case is that “People” have a “Department” text field, but I’ve switched to a taxonomy for that data. I need to put the correct tag on each person based on what their Department field is.
Denina: This is for the EBS shortcodes. im thinking they dont use standard brackets
Matras: I recently went through a site re-design. Along with the re-design client wanted to updated the permalink structure. We now have posts that have lingering effects of that. What would be the recommended way to ensure those links work?
Elskamp: Old structure: site.com/post-name
Warila: New structure: site.com/category/post-name
Jeck: So for every page template I’ve made, theres a corresponding css file, and Ive en-queued it from functions.php but for front-page.php do I also make a css file and enqueue it from functions.php?
Eigo: Hi anyone around? Would like a bit of help/insight with plugin authoring
Almarez: I’m getting this error https://pastee.org/rve4p
Navorro: After googling, i found that w3 total cache was creating the problem
Muna: So i deleted that folder via ftp
Leuhring: So for every page template I’ve made, theres a corresponding css file, and Ive en-queued it from functions.php but for front-page.php do I also make a css file and enqueue it from functions.php?
Jeng: Momo_: ” So for every page template I’ve made, theres a corresponding css file” why?
Rhim: TikaL13: Simple 301 Redirects – Addon – Bulk Uploader – https://----escape_autolink_uri:a03ded6cd97ffffa8f7b4e1454f3eecc----.org/plugins/simple-301-redirects-addon-bulk-uploader/
Gosche: Css should be split up for performance, not content
Jeng: TikaL13: https://----escape_autolink_uri:a03ded6cd97ffffa8f7b4e1454f3eecc----.org/plugins/simple-301-redirects/
Jeng: Momo_: page templates set a body cl***, so you can do different CSS based on that rather than a different file.
Donges: Jeng: this is something that can just be activated and let it do it’s work?
Jeng: No, there’s another plugin that will log 404s and let you then set up 301
Bulla: Jeng Thanks, You’re right, Im not sure why I did it this way there were only 3-4 templates, but I thought you had to queue up styles for each template I learned theme dev from a lynda tutorial, and when I saw the instructor do it, I thought thats how things were done in wp
Felske: Jstransky You’re right. Shouldn’t have done it this way
Creary: Jeng: Redirection perhaps ?
Scalia: It’s my goto for that purpose at least
Mccormick: Oh you said there’s another plugin that logs 404’s and does 301s 😛
Vichi: Jeng: Redirection – https://----escape_autolink_uri:a03ded6cd97ffffa8f7b4e1454f3eecc----.org/plugins/redirection/
Swallow: Jeng I might just write a function to check for the link that caused the 404 and if there is a post with matching title we re-direct? Sound like a good plan?
Jeng: Because that wheel has been invented already
Jeng: I suppose if you can really trust the title, it might work
Niksich: Problem is this needs to be an automatic process and can’t be doing this manually
Jeng: But what about the ones that don’t match
Shaffen: Then they truly get the 404
Aquirre: And give them options to navigate around the site perhaps?
Zick: I just need to ask, is the “/category/” bit in the bnew structure actually a category name, or jsut the word “category” ?
Swansen: If it’s jsut the word, then you shouldn’t be needing any plugins to make new URLs, WP should be redirecting for you based on the previously known slug o_O
Scifres: It’s an actual category :
Lokan: TikaL13: have you been to tikal?
Lokan: Nice, i’ve been 9 times ;
Lokan: I used to live on flores
Bogin: Only once but wow was it amazing
Lokan: Can’t see it all in a day. especially now
